ATP testing measures light emitted when cellular ATP reacts with luciferase enzyme, evaluating surface cleanliness. Also called swab testing, results appear in seconds.

Detects residual organic matter generally rather than specific microorganisms, suitable for confirming post-cleaning hygiene. Used daily in miso factories to verify equipment cleaning. Unlike colony counting requiring incubation time, immediate on-site judgment is its greatest advantage.

ATP stands for adenosine triphosphate, an energy currency present in all living cells. Luciferase reaction converts ATP to light, and luminescence intensity (RLU value) quantifies contamination levels. Measurement completes in seconds, making it a practical tool enabling rapid on-site hygiene decisions.
