Immunity
Japanese: 免疫力
The body's defense capability against pathogens and foreign substances. Closely linked to the gut environment, fermented foods may support immune function.
About 70 percent of immune cells are concentrated in the gut, meaning gut health directly supports immunity. Lactic acid bacteria in fermented foods increase beneficial gut bacteria and are reported to activate intestinal immunity. Melanoidins in miso and soy sauce are also thought to have antioxidant effects. However, rather than relying on any single food, it is important to incorporate fermented foods within a balanced overall diet. Incorporating fermented foods daily is not a special health regimen but routine immune support. Eating diverse foods in balance ultimately supports immune function.
