Container / Vessel
Container
Japanese: 容器(ようき)
A vessel for miso. Material affects fermentation environment and flavor.
Miso containers come in plastic, enamel, wooden barrels, ceramic jars. Plastic and enamel are practical for home use.
Wooden barrels and jars allow subtle air exchange, developing unique flavors but requiring more care. Always sanitize before use. Choose 1.2-1.5x the volume of miso planned. For small batches, zip-lock bag preparation is recommended. Air is fully removed, reducing mold risk. Transparency also makes observing fermentation changes easy.
